[edit] National Safe Kids Week Safety Event (2008-05-03)
From the Cedar Rapids city website:
| National Safe Kids Week is April 26 through May 4 and we are encouraging children to Gear up for Safety. To help do that, the Linn County Safe Kids Coalition, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Havertape Chiropractic, Children’s Eye Center, F & M Bank, and KHAK are teaming up to sponsor this special safety event just for kids!
We will be giving out FREE bicycle helmets (while supplies last), reading books, safety information, kids meal certificates, and more! In addition, kids can put their names in a drawing to win a new bicycle, pair of sunglasses, and other prizes. Date: Saturday, May 3, 2008 (1:00 to 4:00 p.m.) Location: Havertape Chiropractic, 209 29th Street NE, Cedar Rapids |
[edit] Bike to Work Week (week of 2008-05-10)
One of the goals of LCTA is to have a connected trail system that is useful for transportation from home to work. With that goal in mind, we are pleased to participate in Bike to Work Week. More details are available here. (TODO: The linked site is focused on the Des Moines metro area... is there a similar site for the Linn County area?)
[edit] Marion HS Wellness Fair (2008-05-16)
Marion High School is hosting a Health/Wellness Fair (TODO: for students only?) on Friday, May 16 from 8:20 - 10:15 a.m.
[edit] National Trails Day (2008-06-07)
National Trails Day will be on Sat, Jun 7, 2008. Learn more about our trail system by joining us for several fun events. For the thirteenth year in a row, LCTA will again host a "progressive breakfast" along the trail at McCloud Run Park (J Ave. NE), Greene Square Park (3rd Ave. and 5th St. SE), and Sokol Park (Czech Village 16th Ave. bridge). In addition, Mercy Hospital will have a booth set up in Greene Square Park (particularly for the Steps 2 Health program) and a booth at the downtown Farmer's Market to provide trail and other wellness information to anyone interested.
As further "celebration" of National Trails Day (and the County Convervation Department's 50th Anniversary) the Linn County Conservation Department will be hosting a bird hike and a bike ride, both starting at the Cedar Valley Nature Trail parking area on County Home Road at 8:00 a.m. LCTA will provide refreshments and trail maps there, too.
[edit] Mayor's Bike Ride (2008-09?)
The Mayor's Bike Ride was held on Sep 3, 2007. According to meeting minutes from 2007-09-11, over 500 people participated. A similar event will likely be planned again in 2008. TODO: This is sort of a recurring event (as is National Trails Day). Perhaps these should be in a separate category.
