Flood Damage to Trails

From LctaWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

As most of you reading this will know all too well, the month of June 2008 will go down in history as the month of the greatest disaster in the history of Linn County -- namely, a flood that engulfed thousands of houses and businesses, topping the previous river level record of about 20 feet by over 10 feet.

This page is meant to be a collection point for information about damage to area trails due to the recent floods. Add your report to this page.

[edit] Shaver Road Restrooms

The restrooms at the Shaver Road parking lot are closed (as of ~2008-07-25). The Cedar Lake Loop had been officially closed due to potential contamination, but it appears to be open and in good shape now (2008-07-25).

[edit] Near A Street Landfill

There is a lot of work to do to clean up the trail from the landfill area toward Tait Cummins Park. See 2008 Cedar River Trail Cleanup - Sokol/Tait for more details.

[edit] Cedar River Bridge, North of Brandon

As of 2008-07-14, there was a "Road Closed" sign across the trail heading north about 2 miles north/west of Brandon.

Five miles past the Road Closed sign, the CVNT bridge across the Cedar River was found to be damaged. While the arch bridge itself seems to be intact, the surface is not passable. (This info is based on a report from Dean B. See 2008 Flood - CVNT Bridge Report for the whole story.

Note this is not the bridge at Evansdale. For the curious, here is a link to a Google map of the area.
